Making your own natural cleaning products is so incredibly easy and has a wide range of benefits. If you are looking to switch to a non toxic lifestyle, or you are looking for cleaning products that actually work, look no further.
There are so many benefits to making your own cleaning products and we will cover those more below but in my opinion, the best benefit of homemade cleaning supplies is that you get to control the ingredients.
Most commercial cleaners put fragrances in the products without having to disclose exactly what those fragrances are. I want to keep chemicals out of my house as much as possible so grab yourself some of these cute cleaning product labels and let’s dive into the recipes!

Why you should consider making your own cleaning products
As I mentioned above, there are so many benefits to making your own natural cleaning products.
You control the ingredients. That means you get to decide what scents you enjoy. That super chemical smell that comes with commercial cleaners can be very disruptive to your body in a variety of ways.
Since there is not a lot of regulation around fragrances, you never know what is in the products you bring home. Some fragrances have been known to be endocrine disruptors, and beyond that, I notice I develop a cough when I am using them. It burns my lungs and I know that isn’t good for me. If you have noticed the same, it may be time to switch to homemade products.
You can save money! And who doesn’t want to save money. Once you have the containers, all you need to do is fill them up whenever you are running low. A large container of vinegar or rubbing alcohol (the base of most of these recipes) is less expensive than one bottle of household cleaner.
Never run out of cleaner again! Whenever you need a refill on your cleaners, all you have to do is remake it! If you keep a large jug of vinegar or rubbing alcohol on hand, you will always have cleaner at your fingertips.
Making your own cleaners is a great, low waste option. If you are trying to eliminate extra waste in your life, this is an easy way to do so. Unfortunately, cleaning product bottles are not a good thing to reuse as you can very easily mix a toxic, lethal chemical by mistake. The alternative is to buy some amber glass bottles one time (these are the ones I bought in all of the pictures) and you just refill as you need, eliminating single (ish) use products.
Now that you know why you should make your own natural cleaners, let’s get into the recipes.
1. Multi purpose liquid soap
Honestly, when I started making my own homemade liquid soap, it was a game changer! I make a huge batch of soap paste (this is what you add to water to make the soap) and it lasts us for months. You can use this liquid soap recipe in all of the recipes that call for liquid soap so it is absolutely multi purpose!
This soap has changed the game for my dry hands. Normal soaps are closer to detergents and can really irritate sensitive skin. I have never had an issue with homemade soap irritating my hands.
Once you make this liquid soap, you will be set for a long time! I do plan on coming up with a liquid dish soap recipes, but honestly, this hand soap recipe works just as well as dish soap! Stay tuned for a liquid dish soap recipe in the future.
Side note, if you are looking for truly soft and glowing skin, I recommend following up this hand soap with my whipped tallow balm. It is amazing and I highly recommend you trying it out.
2. All purpose cleaner
All purpose cleaner is a great place to start on your natural cleaning product journey. I love the way this cleaner works and it leaves a fresh and clean smell. Like all of the other recipes, this all purpose cleaner is totally customizable and quick to make.
I always keep a bottle of this al purpose cleaner on my counter for a quick kitchen refresh or in my bathroom so I can give the sink a spritz every time I use the washroom. For general upkeep of a clean home, this is a lovely cleaner.
3. Glass cleaner
It can be so hard to find an all natural, streak free glass cleaner that is affordable. Enter making your own! This glass cleaner uses 3 ingredients for a quick and easy glass cleaner.
Did you know you can infuse rubbing alcohol to make a scented cleaning product without the use of essential oils? This glass cleaner will teach you how to make a glass cleaner with a delightful scent with essential oils or infused rubbing alcohol.

4. Toilet bowl cleaner
I can’t say I love scrubbing toilets, although I do enjoy having a clean one. This toilet bowl cleaner does a fantastic job of cleaning your toilet and you can have a little fun with it too!
These toilet bowl cleaning fizzies are basically a bath bomb for your toilet so they are neat to use, especially for kids. Plunk one in the bowl of your toilet, let it soak for 5- 30 minutes, scrub it with your toilet brush and you are done!

5. Linen spray (natural febreze)
Finally, we come to my all time favourite cleaning recipe. Between, kids, dogs and farm animals, our couches and clothes can take a beating. When I have company over, I want them to walk into a house that smells clean and fresh but I find febreze bothers my lungs and causes a big eczema outbreak for my kiddo.
Enter this DIY linen spray. I made some in literally 30 seconds today and gave my couches a spray. My house smelled amazing!
Another fun and unique use of this linen spray is to spritz a cloth with it and throw it in the dryer with your wet clothes for an all natural bounce style sheet. It makes your clothes smell clean and delicious with zero chemicals. If you are sensitive to fragrance but want to smell good, this is the recipe for you.
Bonus points if you try vanilla rose! It is game changer.
