Why You Should Make This Rose Sugar Scrub
There are a few reasons I think you should consider making this scrub.
- It is so easy and customizable. Aside from having to buy the essential oils or rose petals, you likely already have everything you need in your pantry.
- You know exactly what is going on your body. There are so many chemicals in modern day cosmetics and honestly, in our day to day life in general that I believe it is essential to limit them where you can.
- It saves a lot of money! By making your own skin care or scrubs at home, you can pick up enough ingredients to make 3 x the amount that you would buy from a store.
- This rose sugar scrub is luxurious. It smells absolutely divine and brings that touch of romanticism that we all need in our self care routine.
What Materials do I Need for This Rose Scrub?
There are only a handful of materials you need to make this scrub! They are…
- A mixing bowl to combine all of the ingredients
- A spoon to mix the ingredients
- An airtight storage container for the finished product. I use mason jars as they are so cute!
- A spoon for scooping your scrub (more on this later)
- Some cute labels (free download below)
How to Choose Your Carrier Oil
This scrub is very straightforward to make but there are a few different options. Based on your personal skin type, as well as where on your body you plan to use this scrub (I recommend not using it on your face) you can choose which oil you would like as the base.
Here are some options to think about. When we talk about oils, they all have a comedogenic rating. The comedogenic scale goes from 0 (being the least likely to clog pores) to 5 (being the most likely to clog pores.)
If you have very dry skin or scar tissue, you may want to choose an oil high on the comedogenic scale as that is very thick and nourishing. Oils such as cocoa butter or coconut oil are very high on the scale.
If you are prone to breakouts, you may want to stick to oils lower on the comedogenic scale such as jojoba oil, sweet almond oil or rosehip oil.
It doesn’t really make a difference if you use a solid or a liquid oil but you may need to play around with the amount of sugar you add to make sure it is a texture you like.
Now For the Scrub Recipe!
If you are using a solid oil such as coconut oil, here are the proportions:
1/2 cup solid oil
1 cup sugar (this can be any kind of sugar you want.) Brown sugar is more exfoliating than white sugar.
Rose essential oil: No more than 1 % the total weight of the oils in essential oils. 10- 15 drops should be plenty.
If you are using a liquid oil, here are the proportions:
1/2 cup liquid oil
1-1 1/2 cups sugar
Rose essential oil: As above, no more than 1% the total weight.
If you are feeling extra fancy, you can crush up dried out rose petals and mix them with your scrub. Keep in mind, anything you add will go down your drain so you don’t want to be too adventurous!
How do You Make This Scrub?
This scrub is super straightforward to make! All you need to do is combine it in a bowl, mix thoroughly and then transfer to your airtight container.

How to Use Your Rose Scrub
As I mentioned above, you should have a dedicated shower spoon that lives in your bathroom. This is because you never want to introduce moisture to your bath products as it causes them to spoil a lot faster (it also melts them rendering them nearly useless.)
When you are ready to use your scrub, take a small scoop using your clean and dry spoon and take that with you in the shower. Make sure you close up the scrub right away and you are on your way to full pamper mode!
When stored airtight and in a cool dry place, your scrub should last around 3 months. (Mine never lasts that long!) If you want to extend the life, store it in the fridge. This should prolong it to about 6 months.
