This easy pizza dough recipe for kids is so well loved by my family that we make it every single week. Seriously, we never order pizza delivery anymore because this recipe is so incredibly delicious and easy.

If you are ready to get the kids involved in cooking, this is the best recipe to start!

I know cooking with kids can be tricky at times and can be overwhelming with the mess and the chaos. Despite this, it can be so fun to watch the kiddos learn and grow.

When they get to be involved in the cooking process, kids are so much more likely to try out the food and it teaches valuable life skills!

This pizza comes together in under 30 minutes for a fast weeknight meal. (Bonus points for prepping it ahead of time!)

Let’s get into the recipe!

What materials do you need for this pizza dough?

Like I mentioned before, this recipe is extremely straightforward. You will only need…

That is seriously it for materials!

What are the ingredients?

You will need 5 ingredients. They are…

  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp instant yeast- I buy mine from Costco in a large brick and transfer it to a mason jar to store in the fridge. You can also store some in the freezer to make it last even longer!
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 cups all purpose flour

How do you make the pizza?

  1. Start by adding your warm water to a bowl. This water has to be warm and not hot or it will kill all of your yeast.
  2. Add the sugar in and then sprinkle the yeast over the top. Allow the yeast to bloom for 5 minutes. When you check back after the 5 minutes, the yeast should be frothy on the top. If it isn’t frothy your yeast is likely dead and the dough will not rise.
  3. Add in the salt and flour and stir until it is a shaggy dough.
  4. You can turn it out onto a clean counter top and start kneading it, adding more flour if necessary to make sure it isn’t sticking.
  5. Once it is a smooth elastic ball, grease the bowl with some kitchen spray, add the dough back to the bowl, cover with a clean cloth and set it aside to rise for 15-30 minutes.
  6. Roll your dough out or gently stretch it onto a greased baking tray, top with your favourite toppings and bake at 425 F for approximately 20 minutes, checking on the pizza after 15 minutes to ensure it does not burn.
  7. Slice it up and enjoy!

Can this pizza dough be made ahead of time?

Yes! That is partially why it is so amazing. You have a few options of how to make this ahead of time depending on what suits you best.

  1. You can make the dough until you are at the point of letting the ball of dough rise. Wrap the ball of dough in saran wrap and place it in the freezer. When you are ready to use it, take it out and allow it to thaw on the counter until soft and pliable and use it as normal.
  2. Make your pizza to the point of being ready to bake and then freeze it flat much like a frozen pizza. You can make these in bulk so you are always ready for those busy week nights.
  3. Finally, you can combine all of the dry ingredients into a pint sized mason jar and store it until you are ready to use it. When you are ready to use it, combine the jarred ingredients with the warm water and knead it until it is smooth and elastic. Allow it to rise and then use as usual. This is my preferred method of storage as it can store over a year if you use a mason jar vacuum sealer!

What other things can I do with this pizza dough?

This dough is very versatile! I use it to make…

Individual pizzas- Divide the dough accordingly

Calzones- Again divide the dough accordingly, add ingredients to one side of the dough and fold it over on itself to make a half moon shape. Seal the edges and bake like a pizza.

Pig in a blanket- Wrap hot dogs in small chunks of dough, trying to get the whole hot dog covered.

Quick cinnamon rolls- Spread or roll the dough out, spread butter over the top and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar. Roll it into a log and slice into pinwheels. Arrange them in a baking dish and bake at 375 F for approximately 20-30 minutes.

Sweet pizza- Make a pizza like you normally would but top with ingredients such as peanut butter and banana or nutella and strawberries. Be as creative as you want!

Thank you!
